External Examiners
Appointment of External Examiners
On the basis of nominations received from Heads of Schools, the Vice-Provost's Office maintains a consolidated list of External Examiners appointed to examine undergraduate courses. This register is presented to the University Council for approval annually and the names of new appointees should be presented on this list in the academic year preceding the first year of their appointment.
Heads of Schools should note that the term of appointment of external examiners is three years. Requests to extend the term of any external examiner should be made to the Senior Lecturer. It should be noted that extensions will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances.
External Examiners are required to submit an annual report to the Senior Lecturer, who reviews them to ensure proper academic procedures and standards are being maintained. The Vice-Provost's Office sends a copy of the external examiner report(s) to the relevant Head(s) of School/Course Director(s) and/or Director(s) of Teaching and Learning (Undergraduate)
