Trinity College Dublin Human Rights & Religions Summer School

The Trinity College Dublin Human Rights and Religions Summer School will take place from 19th to 23rd June 2017 on the beautiful historic campus, situated right in the heart of Dublin, Ireland.

The intersection of human rights with religious traditions continues to preoccupy much of the contemporary world. The focus of this five day summer school is on some of the most persistent and complex aspects of the relationship between the two. Within this summer school the central question is: What is the role of religious discourse, and the place of religious freedoms, within contemporary human rights frameworks? This question will be explored broadly across themes including the relationship between religion, human rights and the state, the idea of non-discrimination, the problem of hate speech, and the rights of religious minorities.

Among many distinguished speakers, the summer school will feature Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, Professor Nazila Ghanea of Oxford, and Ms. Anastasia Crickley, Chairperson of UN-CERD.
