A False Lead, the Mists of Time and Some Questions - The Holocaust in the East Aegean, 1944

Anthony McElligott is founding professor of history and Head of Department at the University of Limerick, which he
joined in 2002. Among his principal publications are Rethinking the Weimar Republic: Authority and Authoritarianism,
1916-1936 (2014); The German Urban Experience 1900-1945: Modernity and Crisis (2001) and Contested City:
Municipal Politics and the Rise of Nazism in Altona 1917-1937. He is editor with Jeffrey Herf, Antisemitism Before
and Since the Holocaust—Altered Contexts and Recent Perspectives (Palgrave Macmillan in press, 2017). He is
currently researching the destruction of the Jewish Communities of the Eastern Aegean in 1944 for a book: The Last Transport: The Holocaust in the Eastern Aegean to be published by Bloomsbury in 2017. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in 1999 and Member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2015.
