The Centre for Research in IT in Education, CRITE, is a collaboration between the School of Education and the School of Computer Science & Statistics. Its research focus is on creating and evaluating innovative learning experiences and tools which help mediate a constructivist dialogue between the learner, instructor and subject matter. To date, graphical software educational tools based on a social constructivist pedagogy have been developed and evaluated in the areas such as music, mathematics, animation and video production. Many of these have been based on mobile devices. Current areas of focus include mobile learning, immersive virtual worlds and models for technology-mediated, group-based learning in informal and formal settings.
