FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP 2023

Very well done to the three PPES students who were awarded Scholarship on Trinity Monday 2023.

Left to right: Aengus Gilligan, Alannah Maxwell, Jack Cantillon

I was extremely shocked to have gotten it, but once the dust settled I felt incredibly proud of myself and the others for the hard work we had put in over Christmas. It has been a wonderful way to finish my SF year, and I look forward to enjoying the various perks for the rest of my time in college. Alannah Maxwell

I'm unbelievably happy having received the scholarship and totally surprised.  Even before I got my result, I knew the Scholarship exams were experiences I was grateful for and enjoyed the opportunity to work alongside such amazing people. I thoroughly recommend anyone who has academic interests or simply enjoys their courses to attempt the exams. There are few constants in life, but it will always be true that you will never know how things are going to turn out and you miss every chance you don't take. Jack Cantillon

I slept through the announcement so ended up waking up to the crazy news. It took me a couple of days to process it and only recently did the scale of it all kick in. It's a bit surreal. I'm immensely proud of those who sat schols, it was a mighty amount of effort and determination from everybody. Keeping up with my sport and music and continuing to spend time with my friends and family allowed me to tackle schols in the right frame of mind. Aengus Gilligan

What is PPES?

Trinity's PPES programme is the only university degree in Ireland where students can combine the study of philosophy, political science, economics and sociology.

PPES provides an integrated multidisciplinary education, in the social sciences and philosophy, with students studying four subjects that are central to understanding any society. PPES is an extremely flexible degree which allows gradual specialisation over the course of the four-year programme.

Course Structure

Many different degree options are available across the four disciplines with students ultimately having the opportunity to specialise to a high level in either one (single honor) or two (joint honors or major with minor) chosen subjects. In all cases students graduate with a B.A. (Moderatorship) in Philosophy, Political Science, Economics and Sociology.

You can find out more here.

Is it for me?

PPES will appeal to students who are excited about the challenges of understanding the way societies are organised, create wealth and are governed, while drawing on the methods and insights of philosophical enquiry. If you are puzzled about how our world is structured and have a desire to change it, then PPES is the degree for you.

PPES graduates are highly sought after by employers and many former students are now leaders in the fields of management, academia, journalism, international affairs, public policy and public service.

What are the entry requirements?

In 2023 minimum CAO entry points were 591 points with 34 places being available in the programme. Details on course specific requirements can be fount at Study at Trinity website
