Module Outlines and Learning Outcomes

One of the major attractions of the BESS degree programme is its flexibility and the wide range of choices available:

All BESS students take the same programme of study in the first year - this is called a common entry programme. The first year of BESS introduces students to a broad range of disciplines that explore the complex world in which we live today. Lectures are complemented by smaller tutorial groups in which students work throughout the year. In this way BESS students are provided with the best of both worlds: lectures deliver authoritative summaries of materials, which is then analysed in detail in small groups.

From the second year onwards, the flexible structure of the BESS programme allows students to pursue specific interests in greater breadth and depth while still retaining considerable freedom over the selection of individual modules.
