Postgraduate Programmes

The Department has a thriving postgraduate community. It is home to a new, innovative MSc in Comparative Social Change, delivered jointly with the UCD School of Sociology; a unique one-year MPhil in Race, Ethnicity, Conflict; and a structured PhD programme which combines advanced methodological training with transferable skills workshops. At present, we have around 25 PhD students and 20 Masters students. MSc enquiries should be directed to Prof Daniel Faas, MPhil enquiries to Dr David Landy and PhD enquiries to Dr Peter Muhlau.

An innovative new programme developed by the Department of Sociology at Trinity College and the School of Sociology at University College Dublin (UCD) which critically explores the social, cultural and economic forces that drive social change today.

MPhil in Race, Ethnicity and Conflict

Combines a focus on race-critical theory, population movement, conflict and resistance. Specifically, we critically examine the techniques used by states and international agencies to manage peoples and conflict, their social and cultural impact and the responses they elicit.
