Fast-track application process

Back to Research Ethics

Our School’s Research Ethics Committee allows for fast-track consideration of eligible applications. These applications are reviewed in the same manner as standard applications, but outside the scheduled meetings.

Eligible grounds for fast-track review include:

  • Projects where the sole method of data collection is by anonymous questionnaire/survey involving respondents over the age of eighteen
  • Minor amendments or extensions of projects which have already been granted ethical approval by the SLSCS REC
  • Urgent applications by SLSCS staff members involved in externally-funded research projects.

Application for fast-track ethics approval involves the applicant submitting a completed standard application form, along with supporting documents (e.g. questionnaire etc.), to the Research Ethics Committee, at any point during the calendar year.

An electronic version of your application, compiled as a single PDF document, must be submitted to the School of Linguistics Speech and Communication Sciences.  The email address for the School is: slscs@tcd.ie.

Please note that in the case of fast-track applications which, in the opinion of the Chair or a reviewer, require further ethical scrutiny and consideration by the REC, the Chair will present the application to the full REC for review at the next scheduled meeting.
