Corpora: Acquiring and Exploiting Innovative Corpora

  • linguistic research
  • historical language: Irish Syllabic Poetry, circa 1200-1650: BARDIC@TCD
  • corpora for child language acquisition
  • corpora for the development of Irish speech synthesis and speech recognition
  • corpora for the analysis of English as a world language (ICE)
  • corpora for clinical discourse analysis
  • video-recorded corpora for the analysis and teaching of Irish Sign Language
  • corpora of bilingual computer-mediated communication, enhanced with eye-tracking data

In a major new development, multimodal corpora of spontaneous spoken interactions are to be recorded and will provide the basis for the development of  innovative speech technology.

Interdisciplinary collaboration on corpora is desirable future, for example, the annotation of multimodal images, analysis of gesture, etc.is relevant to the analysis of sign language and of graphic symbol communication for those with severe speech and physical impairments.
