Mary Brigid Quirke
Research Fellow, School of Nursing & Midwifery

Biography

Mary Quirke has worked with the Trinity Centre for Practice and Healthcare Innovation (TCPHI) since 2014 as a Healthcare Practice Research Fellow. Mary holds a PhD. in Psychology from Maynooth University and an MA in Forensic Psychology from University College Cork. Prior to her current role, her research work has included children's mental health promotion, ethical issues arising from research with children, occupational stress amongst healthcare workers, and the mental health assessment and diagnosis of offending populations. Previous research work has been funded by the Irish Research Council, Atlantic Philanthropies, The Meath Foundation and The Adelaide Society. In her current role with TCPHI, Mary is responsible for the development of collaborative research partnerships between Tallaght Hospital clinical nursing staff and TCD academic staff. Her involvement in individual research projects is based on the needs of each research group and ranges from project management and facilitation to direct collaboration on specific components of the project (e.g.. project development and design, ethics and funding applications, analysis, writing for publication). The long term objective of this position is to promote high quality nurse-led research that will advance service quality and patient outcomes. Current collaborations include: The emotional health of paediatric populations prescribed Levetiracetam, HRQoL of patients attending a cardiac rehab programme, sepsis management in the ED, profiling retriggering patients of Emergency Response Systems, assessment of out-of-hours clinical decision-making support systems for medical and nursing staff, cultural equality in patient care.
