Projects

  • Title
    • Transition to employment for graduates experiencing mental health difficulties
  • Summary
    • The development of an individualized recovery-orientated and employment-focused approach to supporting college students and recent graduates experiencing mental health difficulties from five Dublin HEIs and nationally in their transition to employment. This process facilitates the individuals to evaluate their current skills, provide them with support to source and obtain suitable employment while also developing their personal self-management strategies to maintain health and well-being while in employment. As required, the student/graduate can meet regularly with the occupational therapist and/or specialist careers adviser and engage with peer-support throughout the process which will be tailored to meet the needs of each individual participant. A collaborative triangulation between current students, recent graduates and specialist supports. This project will be build capacity into the practice student services with specialist services leading to mainstreamed interventions and developed into an online transition tool, which the student will have ownership of throughout the process and into the workplace.

  • Title
    • Eudemonic well-being in older adults
  • Summary
    • Occupational therapy has a longstanding interest in eudemonic well-being given the opportunity to enhance well-being and increase a sense of purpose and meaning in life through participation in occupations that provide the opportunity to contribute to family and society (Chippendale, 2013). A recent RCT of an occupational therapy intervention comprising of a writing workshop plus inter-generational exchange showed significantly improved eudemonic well-being among the intervention arm (Chippendale & Boltz, 2015).The current study examines the literature surrounding eudemonic well-being in older adults and uses data from the TILDA study to examine factors contributing to eudemonic well-being in older adults in Ireland.
