Research Activities: Research Interests: Analysis of discourse in ordinary and extraordinary contexts; clinical discourse analysis; illness narratives analysis and personal life trajectories; communication disorders in child and adult psychiatry, including forensic psychiatry; PBL teaching and learning. Research projects with off-campus institutions: Current Research Activities 'Conversational sociability in interactions between SLPs and specific clinical populations' (e.g. people with aphasia, traumatic brain injury, chronic schizophrenia); collaborative research with Professor D. Kovarsky, University of Rhode Island, US. ''Language & communication profiles of children ADHD' is a joint research endeavour with Order of St John of God Services, Child and Family Centres (Lucena Services: Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin and Bray, Co. Wicklow). Conversational sociability 'The efficacy of social communication & conversational skills programmes for people with mental health disorders' is a joint project with the Clinical Specialist in Speech and Language Therapy for Adults with Mental Health Disorders based at AMNCH, Tallaght Hospital. Recently completed research projects (2006) 'Language and communication profiles of children attending child and adolescent mental health services' is a joint research endeavour with Order of St John of God Services, Child and Family Centres (Lucena Services: Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin and Bray, Co. Wicklow). 'An exploration of the incidence of communication & swallowing disorders in psychiatric patients attending the Psychiatric Unit at AMNCH and associated Community Day Centres'. This study led directly to the creation and subsequent appointment of the first Clinical Specialist in Speech and Language Therapy for Adults with Mental Health Disorders In the republic of Ireland.
