Dr. Denise Crossan

Biography

Denise Crossan was appointed to Trinity College's School of Business as Assistant Professor in Social Entrepreneurship in January 2009. She is the Trinity Director of the Initiative on Social Entrepreneurship and is a member of the Trinity Civic Engagement Advisory Group. In June 2015 she was selected to join the European Commission's Groupe d'experts de la Commission sur l'entrepreneuriat social (GECES), as a member of the Academic & Think Tank Committee. The GECES acts as an advisory panel supporting the development of the European Commission's Social Business Initiative goals. In 2015/16 Dr Crossan will take up the role of Eugene M. Lang Visiting Professor for Issues in Social Change, Lang Centre for Civic and Social Responsibility, in Swarthmore College PA.

A graduate of Queen's University Belfast, she holds a BSc (Hons) in Geography and an MSc in Business Improvement, University of Ulster. In 2007 she completed her PhD entitled "Towards a Classification Framework for Not for Profit Organisations" from Department of International Business, University of Ulster, Magee.

Dr Crossan's current research focuses on the following areas: mapping social entrepreneurship; measurement of social value and ethical practice in social entrepreneurship; social entrepreneurs as public service providers; international social entrepreneurship, student entrepreneurship and service learning in third level education.
