Welcome

Globalisation is a complex phenomenon. To address it requires a multi-disciplinary approach which draws upon a wide range of methodologies and research specialisations. A true understanding of globalisation is a university-wide endeavour, with the social sciences, the humanities and the applied and natural sciences each having an important role in conducting research on the myriad interdependencies that increasingly link together different regions and societies around the world.
Trinity's focus on international integration seeks to produce research that draws out the lessons from Ireland in understanding globalisation. This is especially important, since Ireland ranks at or near the top of various international rankings of globalisation and there is immense international interest in the Irish experience.
An important focus is the challenge of understanding:
- how globalisation affects the development challenges facing the lowest-income countries
- the appropriate forms of assistance that might be offered by the international community. This debate is especially relevant for Ireland, in view of the major increase in its aid budget in recent years.
