Neurosciences are currently served by the Trinity College Institute of Neurosciences. In addition, research on neuro-psychiatric disease occurs in the Institute of Molecular Medicine.
The Trinity College Institute of Neurosciences incorporates research spanning areas from physiology, neurochemistry, genetics and psychology in addition to a large number of additional programmes in areas such as pharmacology. Research on cognitive function and on neurodegeneration addresses many of the major health issues in the currently aging population and links also with themes identified in Quality of Life. The development of powerful MRI-based imaging platforms at TCIN coupled to clinical research capacity at ST James's Hospital will have major implications for research capacity within this University.
A strong focus on neurosciences within Trinity College permits an integrated approach in relationship to imaging modalities and data management for the neurosciences integrating significantly with the IT component of the College's research strategy.
