Student to Student
Student 2 Student (S2S) is a group of trained student volunteers who are here to help you with student life.
From settling into your first year, to managing the challenges you may face throughout your time here in Trinity, we're here for you.
There are two main types of volunteers within S2S: Peer Mentors and Peer Supporters.
The Peer Mentor Programme is for First Year students and is gradually being rolled out to all of College. In 2011/12 Peer Mentors have been allocated to all First Year students studying Science, Two Subject Moderatorship (TSM), BESS, Nursing, Medicine, Computer Science and Engineering. The emphasis is on having fun and getting to know other students who will help you enjoy College and get the best out of your time here.
The Peer Support Programme is slightly different. Sometimes you may wish to talk to someone about a problem you have - be it big or small. A Peer Supporter might be just what you need. These are specifically trained students who will listen to you and support you through difficulties you might be experiencing. Any student in college can avail of a Peer Supporter. Simply email student2student@tcd.ie if you are interested in finding out more.
S2S is supported by the Senior Tutor's Office and the Student Counselling Service.
The transition into college life in Trinity is not always as smooth as expected, and some of the issues that arise can be resolved by the knowledge and experience of other students. The Peer Mentoring Programme links current students with groups of incoming students to help them adjust and enjoy the academic and social life of the Trinity campus. First Years meet their 'Peer Mentor' during the first week in college, who are then available throughout the academic year to offer support with any issues that may arise. They arrange both social events and individual check-ins to see how things are going. Be it social, practical, emotional or academic concerns Peer Mentors are there to help.
In the academic year 10/11 Peer Mentors will be allocated to students in Science, Two Subject-Moderatorship, Nursing, BESS ( Business, Economics and Social Studies), and Medicine.
If you are in any other course Student 2 Students also has 'Peer Supporters' that you can avail of. Peer Supporters are student volunteers who have received further training to listen and support you on a one to one basis. Transitioning into college can be a difficult and challenging time and sometimes students may need some extra support. Many students find the Peer Supporter service very helpful, as it is provided by other students whom they might feel more comfortable approaching.
The Student 2 Student volunteers have a lot of experience in student life, and it is a confidential service.
