Optional Language Courses
The Centre for Language and Communication Studies (CLCS) offers undergraduate students the opportunity to attend evening language classes in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Irish, Turkish or Korean. The classes are designed a) to enable students to survive in an environment where the language is spoken; b) to prepare them for study abroad; c) to give them access to a wider range of media relevant to their academic or career interests; and d) to enhance their long-term career prospects. These courses are also available as credit-bearing options to some students as part of the Broad Curriculum (See Link)
Classes begin in the first week of the first term and run throughout the academic year. They comprise of a weekly two-hour contact session. Students are assessed in various ways during the year, based on continuous assessment of group tasks with oral and written components, and a written test at the end of the second term. It is expected that students who register for a language class commit to regular attendance.
- Note:
Students who study a language as a component of their degree course are not permitted to study the same language in this programme: e.g. a TSM student taking French and Spanish would not be permitted to take either a French or Spanish language module. - Please email the Centre for Language and Communication Studies for further information about the Language Modules. Please note that the number of places in this programme is limited.
