Additional information for International Students

Within a month after arriving in Ireland, non-EU/EEA international students must register with the Gardai National Immigration Bureau (GNIB). To do so, you will have to provide certain documents, details of which can be found here. In order to register with the GNIB, non-EU international students must now provide proof of Health Insurance, information about which can be found here.

If you are a visa required student who wishes to travel out of Ireland for a holiday or to visit home your country during your time in Trinity please note:

1.  You will have to check if you are visa-required to the country you are travelling to and apply for that early.

2.  You will have to apply for a re-entry visa into Ireland from IRELAND.  This may be a complicated process and will take time, approximately 6-8 weeks.  Please check the necessary information and start the application process shortly after you arrive in Ireland.

Note: if you exit Ireland without a valid re-entry visa, the only option available to you is to submit a fresh visa application to the local embassy or consulate in your home country.

Full-Degree Undergraduates (first year and advanced entry): There will be a special orientation session including GNIB registration details on Thursday, 22 September 16:30-18:00 (4.30-6pm) in the Ed Burke Theatre.

Visiting/Exchange Students: GNIB information will be provided during General Orientation on Monday, 21 September.

The GNIB is located at Burgh Quay, near Trinity College.

Students whose first language is not English may be interested in taking an English for Academic Purposes Course.

During your time as a student in Ireland, you may be eligible for part-time employment; more information about working in Ireland can be found here.

The Global Relations Office runs a Meet & Greet service at Dublin airport, which you can apply to use.

For more information, please visit the TCD non-EU students webpage.

Let some of Trinity's international students tell you more life in College!

Finally, all international students should check out the TCD Handbook for International Students.
