Certificate in Holocaust Education
The Herzog Centre in the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Studies Holocaust Education Trust Ireland offer a Certificate in Holocaust Education which provide in-depth tuition on the historical significance and contemporary resonance of the Holocaust. This programme provides participants with information, tools and skills to address this subject in their area of work, and to develop pedagogic expertise to complement their knowledge. The programme is divided into four modules, all of which must be completed by participants who wish to attain the certificate.
(Continuous Professional Development) Special Purpose Award at NFQ Level 7 carrying 20 ECTS
This programme is ideally suited for teachers and those involved in community and outreach education.

Module 1: Teaching the Holocaust, 20, 21, 22 August 2012
Intensive three day summer course for teachers that addresses the complex subject of the Holocaust and how to teach it in the classroom. Lectures, interactive seminars, workshops, materials and resources presented by renowned international Holocaust educators.
- Assignment: 1 essay: 1,500 - 2,000 words.
Module 2: Learning from the Holocaust, 30 October - 02 November 2012
A five day programme that includes a three day study visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau. In Poland, seminars, tours and lectures are incorporated into the programme. This programme is supported by two seminar days, one in preparation for the study visit and one for reflection afterwards.
- Assignment: 1 essay: 1,500 - 2,000 words
Module 3: Irish Seminar at Yad Vashem International School, Jerusalem, Israel, July 2013
An eight day programme at the Yad Vashem International School for Holocaust Studies. This course is particularily tailored for Irish students providing an in-depth exposure to many facets of the Holocaust. The programme is supported by two separate seminar days, one in preparation for the study visit and one on refleciton afterwards.
- Assignment: Field Diary
Module 4: Dissertation or Special Topic
This could take various forms: a long essay of 5,000 words OR a short film OR a teaching design for a course on the Holocaust to be taught at schools.
