The NIID is currently undergoing an external review which will continue over the summer months.
For this reason, the Management Committee has decided not to proceed with an intake of students for 2013-2014. Consequently the proposed Open Day which was due to take place this May has now been cancelled.The next Open Day will be in April or May 2014.

Graduation 2012
Congratulations to seventeen students of the pioneering and innovative university course for people with intellectual disability who graduated at a ceremony in Trinity College Dublin’s Public Theatre on Thrusday, November 8th. Course Description
The Certificate in Contemporary Living is a two year, full time Trinity College Certificate programme. This Certificate was the first full time course for adults with intellectual disabilities in Ireland. It is a specially designed programme, provided in a tertiary setting, aimed at supporting students as they make transitions towards independence, lifelong learning and employment.

Specific Objectives for the Certificate in Contemporary Living

Delivery 2012/13
As part of the Course, students on the Certificate:
- have class contact on three days per week
- work with fellow students from various departments within Trinity College
- audit undergraduate lectures in their area of interest
- complete two work placements of personal choice
- may undertake a field trip in a European country
- work with professionals in the arts
Course Structure 2012/13
The Certificate Course is made up of 10 modules, eight mandatory and two elective. These subjects enable students to participate in the expressive arts, humanities and to develop transferable skills. Each module consists of lectures, tutorials as well as self-directed learning.

Entry Requirements
As with the Trinity Access Programme (TAP) mature students, there are no standard educational requirements, but evidence of particular interest in education and strong motivation is essential, and applicants will be required to undergo a literacy and numeracy test and an interview.

Assessment and standard setting
Assessment is undertaken through presentations (oral and poster), personal portfolios and written work for each of the ten modules studied.
To fulfil the requirements for award of the Certificate of Attainment each student will undertake designated assessments for final award purposes which are outlined within the Learning Objectives for each of the modules. The Module Descriptor captures what the students will actually be doing in each of the ten modules.
The assessments undertaken for final award purposes is reviewed on an annual basis by a suitably qualified external examiner who has had the experience of working on similar programmes at third level.
Admission Requirements
There are no standard educational requirements, but evidence of particular interest in education and strong motivation is essential. To apply for the course you must:
- Submit a CV with 2 passport photos
- Complete and submit the application form
- Attend the CCL Open day
- Attend an Interview
- Undertake a numeracy and literacy test
Applicants who will need personalised support whilst partaking in the programme will be required to provide an undertaking that this support will be sourced and funded by the Service Provider/Agency or that a Personal Assistant will accompany the person on the programme.

Fee Assistance
*This course does not receive government funding however, to date, the CCL has been supported largely by philanthropic gifts from private donors with part contributions from service agencies. We have also received some funding from Government through the Strategic Innovation Fund.
If you are not affiliated to a Service Provider/Agency you may be entitled to apply for fees assistance. Please contact the academic director of the NIID in writing to apply for this assistance.
