Bruker X-Ray flourescence spectrometer

Laboratories - Geochemistry Lab

The Geochemistry Laboratory is located in the Museum Building and has three main analytical instruments:

  1. A Thermo Deltaplus  Continuous flow Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (CF-IRMS) for δ15N and δ13C analysis of solid organics by a CE Instruments 1112 flash combustion analysers and a Thermos gas bench for δ13C and δ18O analysis of carbonates and δ18O of water samples.
  2. A Phillips PW1720 Powder x-ray diffractometer (XRD) for qualitative phase identification in crystalline substances.
  3. A Bruker S2 Ranger Energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometer (ED-XRF) for identification of elemental composition (Na to U) in solids.

In addition, the lab has comprehensive equipment for milling, homogenising, drying, and weighing of samples.
