Laboratories - Developmental Molecular Laboratory

The Zoology building includes a well equipped molecular facility used mainly by the Developmental Biology and Occular Development and Neurobiology research groups, but also hosting other research groups for molecular projects. It includes standard equipment for DNA and RNA extraction and analysis, PCR amplification including a “real time” PCR analyser. A cell culture laboratory is suited for tissue explant and primary cell culture. It also includes water purification, autoclave and -80°C cell and tissue storage facilities. For tissue analysis there is a microtome for preparing frozen sections, a vibrating microtome, an automated liquid handling system and a range of microscopes; stereo for dissecting, inverted, fluorescent and for 3D imaging (Optical Projection Tomography). The latter requires a number of LINUX workstations to support image analysis.
