My research aims to investigate the clinical potential of Geriatric Assessment (GA) in Oncology.
Although cancer is very common in older patients, the optimal treatment for cancer for this subset of patients is not well established, due to underrepresentation of older patients in clinical trials. There is also little guidance regarding how to best treat older patients, balancing cancer-related outcomes with those of pre-existing geriatric conditions. As there is marked heterogeneity in the geriatric population, assessment of baseline health status is important. Geriatricians use Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) to describe an older patient’s overall health status and identify potential areas of deficits. How this translates to Oncology has yet to be better established.
