Courses in Cognitive Psychotherapy


Foundation Course in Cognitive Psychotherapy
(in partnership with HSE and St Patrick’s University Hospital)

  • Offers a comprehensive introduction to CBT principles for clinicians who want to understand and use CBT principles in their day to day clinical roles.
  • Offers a comprehensive grounding in CBT principles for clinicians with an interest in pursuing a CBT clinical qualification and accreditation in the future.
  • Extra mural course open to all health care professionals.
  • Good preparation for the PG Dip course.
  • Course runs from October 2017 to June 2018.
  • Teaching takes place in three terms. Each starts with a three day, Wednesday to Friday block, followed by teaching on two other Thursdays.
  • This extra mural course does not use the online Trinity application portal (my.tcd.ie) and does not lead to registration with the College. The course is run within the Department of Psychiatry and for up to date information about the course fees please contact the course administrator directly.

Diploma Course

  • This course develops a student’s understanding of Cognitive Psychotherapy applied to common mental health problems.
  • Provides academic and supervisory support for introductory casework using CBT, for those with some existing experience/training in counselling / psychotherapy.
  • Students are expected to treat a minimum of 5 cases over 3 academic terms and will have weekly workshops, Self Practice/Self Reflection tutorials and CBT supervision.
  • Course runs from September 2017 to May 2018
  • Applicants must be employed in a health profession (e.g. nursing, medicine, social work, occupational therapy etc.) and have relevant clinical experience.

  • Teaching starts with an introductory week in September and continues every Friday during academic terms.
  • Introductory teaching week will take place from 18th – 22nd of September 2017

Masters Course

 

Please note that this course does not have a new intake every year but rather every second year.

  • 2-year course to start October 2018.
  • This builds on existing competences in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy – one year placement, workshops, supervision and research dissertation.
  • Applicants must be health professionals with a Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent qualification in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy.
  • Requirement to submit a case study and recent recording of a therapy session prior to a selection interview.
  • Up-to-date information about course fees can be found at the Academic Registry.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 15 sessions of a cognitively based psychotherapy and associated homework tasks; or, alternatively they may complete 25 hours of another model of Psychotherapy with an accredited therapist. The cost for this therapy will be borne by the student.
  • Teaching starts with an introductory week in September and continues each Friday in Year 1 and alternate Fridays in Year 2.
  • NMBI Category II approval until 2021.

MSc applications will be accepted online from November 2017 until the 31st of May 2018.
