Description

Energy costs in manufacturing are forcing industries to adopt more environmentally efficient manufacturing processes and strategies. The principle research focus for this project is in the area of energy efficiency in manufacturing. Specifically, the research involves a characterisation of process level compressed air consumption in automated assembly operations and experimental investigation of optimisation techniques and technology. The research is being conducted in conjunction with Hewlett Packard (Manufacturing) Ltd based in the Liffey Park Technology Campus, Leixlip, Co. Kildare.

Other research interests: Sustainable manufacturing, energy efficiency, automated assembly, lean manufacturing, pneumatics, computer integrated and intelligent manufacturing systems, industrial ecology.
