This work concerns itself with the design and benchmark test results of a low cost, high specification electret based measurement microphone. Although microphones can provide detailed “high level” information their prohibitive cost has been an obstacle to their widespread adoption into sensor systems and networks. A low cost solution would allow products requiring large numbers of microphones, such as beamforming, smart space sensoring and environmental noise monitoring to be developed in large quantities at competitive prices
