Prof. Wenya Li, Northwestern Polytechnical University will give a seminar on

Cold spraying advanced solid-state coating

Friday 21 September 2018, 11:30am, Parsons Building Boardroom

Cold spraying (CS) is a well-known advanced solid-state coating technique, but now can function more than the coating ability. It has been in a broad sense developed for many other uses, e.g. additive manufacturing and repair. In this talk, a basic understanding of CS as a welding/bonding process is introduced, and then the hybrid CS+ concept is proposed. As case studies, CS is used for welding or to help/facilitate welds, and vice versa welding (specially solid-state friction welding) enhances CS coatings.

Prof. Wenya Li is a professor of Northwestern Polytechnical University (China) and director of Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Friction Welding Technologies. His research interests lie primarily in the field of cold spraying, friction welding, thermal spraying and additive manufacturing. He has published more than 150 papers in peer-viewed journals. He is also the editorial member of several peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Journal of Materials Science & Technology, Science and Technology of Welding and Joining) and professional society (e.g., Chinese Materials Research Society, Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society).
