Henri Pourrat, écrivain auvergnat : du particulier au général
The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies at Trinity College Dublin is organising two events to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of the French writer Henri Pourrat.
The first is a research seminar for PhD students and staff, with Madame Fabienne Regnoux, who is writing a thesis on Henri Pourrat’s Contes. This will take place on Tuesday 6th October, 2009, in room 4096 in the Arts Building, Trinity College, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The second event is a public lecture by Madame Annette Lauras:

The lecture will be given in French, with translation into English.
Born in Ambert in the Auvergne where he also died, Henri Pourrat, like several other writers from the first half of the twentieth century, liked and respected peasant culture, and tried to make it known in the literary world. During his long walks, he collected many folktales to which he subsequently gave a literary form. Gaspard des Montagnes won the Prix du Figaro (1921) and the Grand Prix du roman de l’Académie française (1931) while Vent de Mars took the Prix Goncourt in 1941. For more than 15 years, Henri Pourrat exchanged letters with Professor T. B. Rudmose Brown of Trinity College Dublin.
This lecture marks the fiftieth anniversary of the poet’s death, and is organised by the taught master’s programmes of the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies (http://www.tcd.ie/langs-lits-cultures/ ), with the support of the Trinity Long Room Hub and in collaboration with the Société des Amis d’Henri Pourrat (http://www.henripourrat.com/).
Madame Lauras is Henri Pourrat’s daughter and still lives in his house in Ambert, where there is an impressive collection of documents pertaining to the writer’s life and work.

Madame Lauras est la fille d’Henri Pourrat dont elle habite encore la maison à Ambert, où est conservée un impressionnante collection de documents relatifs à la vie et à l’œuvre de l’écrivain.
Né et mort à Ambert en Auvergne, Henri Pourrat, comme d’autres écrivains de la première moitié du vingtième siècle, aime et respecte la culture paysanne, et cherche à la faire connaître du monde littéraire. Au cours de ses longues promenades, il a collectionné de nombreux contes auxquels il a donné une forme littéraire. Gaspard des Montagnes a été récompensé par le Prix du Figaro (1921) et le Grand Prix du roman de l’Académie française (1931) et Vent de Mars a obtenu le Prix Goncourt en 1941. Pendant plus que 15 ans, Henri Pourrat a correspondu avec le professeur dublinois T. B. Rudmose Brown.
Cette conférence marque le cinquantenaire de la disparition du poète, et elle est placée sous l’égide des programmes en maîtrise de la School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies (http://www.tcd.ie/langs-lits-cultures/ ), avec le soutien du Trinity Long Room Hub en collaboration avec la Société des Amis d’Henri Pourrat (http://www.henripourrat.com/ ).
