The few miners that we have in the Battery are very much in their element and when two or three get working together on a tunnel they talk a language incomprehensible to others whatever dialect they may have used in the old days Welsh Northumbrian etc. Nor will they come “up top” for their lunch preferring they say the equable climate of 20 feet down and a candle light to the upper air.
