[12 May 1917] You will have a tremendous number of clothes for the Baby to wear. I suppose it will never have time to put them all on.
The fellow who accompanies me in the motor has a baby whom he has not seen yet. He I have thought is the most selfish person I know. It is rather deplorable but although a likeable man at times has become more & more unsupportable & irritating as the week has gone on. It is a curious case of being quite wrong a person. I am rather glad for that reason that the week is over. It will be nice to get back to the other kind of person tomorrow.
No talk of leave yet nor do I think of it for what is a week with its partings but the RGA is a great corps and more than any other offers chances of getting home for a bit to train a Battery, to do this that & the other which of course would be a very different thing. Still & all there are many who would be thinking the same way and its only a fancy. Such things however do happen & you never know. Though while what they call campaigning weather lasts these days are not done much. The Soviet session seems to have been the usual thing and now the Reichstag I see is going into “Rest” so peace is not over. Maybe it will come upon us when nobody is looking. I hope so.
Yours very much,
Patrick
