The ‘Commodore’ went down with 2,000 bags of Salonika mails

22nd December 1915 Wednesday

Good night and good breakfast off bacon and goats liver and kidneys. Out all day with the men trench digging much cheered by letters to hand this morning from Father, Frank Moran, Harold Cole, Cousin Dolly, Ellen and Ian [?]Wakely. Very glad to have all that news and to be in touch.
Rather depressed to hear that the Field Post Office people in Salonika say the ‘Commodore’ went down with 2,000 bags of Salonika mails – our Xmas mails. Personally do not believe it for I have heard that story before.
Anderson and Irish up in Dandli today.
Apparently Scotch Regiments in the hills opposite on the bagpipes were going this evening at 7pm.
Ration of rum up – good idea!
Hear the Dardanelles have been evacuated by 8 Divisions – if they come here I suppose we will push up. Better thing than staying here waiting for bogies.
