29 August [1916] Tuesday
Had to get up at Reveille because the HQ had seen fit to settle down near us. Moved my bivouac into a gulley beside camp which we hear is permanent. Official news to hand that Roumania has declared war on Austria. My private opinions of Roumania up to now would not bear recording but I suppose now the brigands have joined us we must pretend to believe them angels.
Rifle inspection only parade during the day.
Dashed hot weather. Mosquitos very bad in the gulley at night.
Wrote McGrigors asking for pass book.
