My dearie, A great big green letter I found today very nice to see them again. It wasnt General Gough who came to dinner and took part in the Controversy Easterners v Westerners. No that was a 2-Lient. It was the General who came to look at the Battery. I am awfully glad dearie you think well of our Battery you are quite right it does it awfully well he takes it all so easily. I know you had a good opinion of Day – He is a very agreeable young fellow. The Last two or three nights Ive slept a good deal better that is to say a good deal longer for when I only began sleeping at 2 I always slept soundly till woken up and found it very hard to get up sometimes then. Lately Ive been getting up earlier. Today again was lovely and bright. The Battery played v another Battery who had a good side & defeated us. Birts battery it was, he is also a Major and we see him often enough. He is a commonplace but decent fellow I remember you were not impressed formally by his wife. I wish Id had a wee German dictionary
