[11 March 1916]

They attacked me for the dog but I didnt give it back so they howled & yelled like blazes. You say you hope I will not be liking to live with J better than with you. Indeed I have hardly lived at all with you so how could I tell you? No, but I hope it wont be much longer before I shall be able to for more than a week at  time or week-ends as at [?] I am on night duty tonight again so have all night to write but not much news not even if a trip like the last night duty I wrote. Really I do not think it will be as much as three weeks before my things are fixed up I hope not at any rate. We have lost another man, Roper, he has to go to have a rather serious operation at a base hospital so will be away for some time. I hardly think Ill be able to get down to the place where Evans is this time as he roads have turned greasy. I broke a belt pulley wheel on my bike yesterday just on arriving at my destination where I had to take a rush message. So had to walk back – It is interesting to walk by the Fields for a change instead of the roads. I would like to take you a trip on the Motor Cycle through this country & shew you all the historic places but then of course the war will never be over. On the other hand I hear on good authority that it will be finished on June 17th. Here’s hoping! Much love to you dear
Your loving Pat
