You will not think me very vain (or perhaps you will) for telling you that my recomendation from our Div Arty General said “I have seen Capt WP Hone & like his manner & appearance. He impresses me as being keen, capable, & well educated. I have pleasure etc…. As a matter of fact the same things rather struck me about the Gen – It seems to me that when D gets this letter & blue form he will have all he asked for needful to gazette me if only he will be able to take the matter in hand & not send the papers off again to someone else.
1 AM. I am sleepy but not going to sleep I shall reserve it till the morning & sleep all day. It is disappointing to me & to you this delay but I feel as if now that the papers have got out of the Usual Channels something may be done [a friend of mine applying for Flying Corps has had his papers back to get a different medical certificate. This after 4 weeks.] On the other hand it may not. And on the knees of the Gods we will leave it not attempting to understand the principle underlying these ramifications <with> which the people concerned should really familiarize themselves better.
Your loving Pat
