Hope we get even with the Greeks some day.

17th November 1915 Wednesday

A pleasant day. Company parade in the morning. Afternoon bathing and clothes washing parade and issue of necessary equipment to complete men. Collar and bayonet frog for myself and hope to get bayonet out of stores tomorrow. Blore in Salonika. Marked activity in the men on news of move leaking out. Mail due in but failed to arrive. Hope it turns up tomorrow before we go West. Wind came up during the day so much that we had to have several meals in the tent. Wind so great that the harbour is too rough that Kitchener’s reported to be on board a destroyer that cannot land. News of a raid by 10th Divisional authorities on one of the Greek farms and the finding there of an enormous amount of stolen British Army stores. Hope we get even with the Greeks some day. A more hopeless lot of swine I have never seen. We have several times been ordered in Routine Orders to salute the Greek and Servian officers of whatever rank. I am glad to salute Servian officers but draw the line at saluting Greek Subalterns who have not the courtesy to return a salute with as much decency as I would a child in the street. I wish our warships in the harbour would take a few plugs at their beastly town.
Out now that we move 8 pm and midnight tomorrow. Had an argument with Hall in which he made out that the 10th Dvn have never been in action and never out of Egypt till now in Servia. Smellie as normal utterly failed to get the point and would not be silenced.
No new rumour.
I make this entry now that I paid Smellie 39.20 drachmas three days ago being 5 franc bet as to Egypt (lost), 25 franc loan and 7.20 mess subscription and 2 franc for cigarettes got for me in Salonika.
