Course Structure
The course will be of one calendar year's duration. It will comprise five modules taught during Michaelmas, Hilary and Trinity Terms, and a research project written up in a dissertation. Three of the five modules are core courses each of 18 hours duration, and these are taught in Michaelmas Term*. The remaining two modules are options each of 18 hours duration and selected by the student and taught in the Hilary and/or the Trinity Term**. The taught modules will therefore be organized as follows:
Michaelmas Term: 3 core courses each of 18 hours duration* = 6 hours per week
Hilary Term: 2 options or 1 option each of 18 hours duration** = either 4 or 2 hours per week
Trinity Term: 1 option if only 1 taken in Hilary Term = 3 or 0 hours per week; preparation of dissertation.
Total no. of contact hours (excluding supervision of dissertation and language courses): 90 or more depending upon choice of course.
*Exception: some of the language core courses will comprise more than 18 hours and, in the case of Old Irish, will run over the full 3 terms, i.e. for the full academic year.
**Exception: all of the options offered in Irish run for 24 hours over the full 3 terms, i.e. for the full academic year.
