The Christopher Donovan Translation Prize

This prize was established in 2009 to honour the memory of Christopher Donovan, a graduate of the MPhil in Literary Translation. This prize was founded by his family and friends.

The prize will be awarded annually, by decision of the Court of Examiners of the MPhil in Literary Translation, to the student who submits the best Portfolio of Translation provided that the mark exceeds 70.'

In 2011 this prize was awarded to Magdalena Szulc. Her Literary Translation Portfolio was commended by the examiners as an outstanding portfolio. One of her examiners commented that: "Along with her linguistic capabilities, the candidate appears extremely comfortable in both Polish and Anglophone literary cultures and I was impressed by the breadth of her text selection." One of her examiners concluded that: "Magdalena possesses all the skills necessary to make a very successful career as a literary translator."
