Professor David Scott, Trinity College Dublin

David Scott is Professor of French, Textual and Visual Studies at Trinity College Dublin, where he is currently Head of the Department of French. Among his publications are

  • Pictorialist Poetics: Poetry & the visual arts in 19th-century France (Cambridge University Press, 1988),
  • Paul Delvaux: Surrealizing the Nude (1992),
  • Semiologies of Travel: from Gautier to Baudrillard (Cambridge University Press, 2004)
  • The Art and Aesthetics of Boxing (The University of Nebraska Press, 2009).

A former President of the International Association of Word & Image Studies, Professor Scott was curator of the 1995-96 exhibition European Stamp Design: A Semiotic Approach, at the Design Museum, London; the exhibition was accompanied by a book. In 1996 he was invited to lecture at the Collège de France on Icônes nationales [national icons]. He has competed in the Dublin City Marathon and in boxing events.
