Network request process - Step 3 - Terms & Conditions

Conditions for access to the Trinity College data network for registered staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students.

In consideration of Trinity College Dublin, IT Services department providing network access for your private (non-Trinity College owned) computer, you agree as follows:

In addition the following requirements must be met.

  • All users must know their local administrator password or the password of an account in their local administrator group, where appropriate.
  • Users must permit IT Services install licensed anti-virus software on privately owned computers and apply security settings. Any settings or software installed should not be removed/disabled or reconfigured. All privately owned machines will be entered in a centrally managed database.
  • IT Services personnel must be permitted to take remote control of privately owned computers should this be necessary to troubleshoot problems.
  • Privately owned machines will be permitted to use the Internet only via IT Services supported web browsers.
  • Privately owned machines will be permitted to use email only via IT Services supported email clients.
  • All privately owned computers must connect to the domain. Users must not remove their machines from the domain.
  • Note that for support reasons undergraduates and postgraduates are limited to having one privately owned computer connected to the network.
  • Users must not remove/disable/reconfigure the configurations or settings relating to connectivity to the College network, or permit personnel outside of IT Services staff to do so.
  • If a users' account expires or is disabled all facilities will be terminated. In the event of such termination user's are obliged to remove any College owned software, or software installed under College site license.
  • IT Services reserves the right to render any network point inactive at any time.
    Users must grant Information Systems Service the right to examine the contents of the hard disk(s) of any machine connected to the College network.
  • Users of Linux\Windows Dual-Boot systems i.e. users with both Linux and Windows operating systems installed on the computer must choose the Linux\Windows Dual-Boot option in the network request form. These users must indicate via the Comments field in the network request form which versions of the operating systems are installed. Failure to indicate the presence of additional operating systems on your machine could lead to disconnection from the network.
  • It is forbidden to 'share' network points on the teaching and research network i.e. it is forbidden for more than one machine to use a single network point. It is required that you request the same number of network points to be activated as there are machines connecting to the network.
  • As per the College Structured Cabling System policy and the College Wireless policy, it is not permitted to connect networking equipment such as routers, access points and switches to the College network.

The University of Dublin and Trinity College Dublin, and their servants or agents, including IT Services and its personnel will not be responsible for:

  • technical failures in supplying network related services
  • any loss of users data however caused
  • any damage to or loss or theft of property or data however caused occurring while the computer is in the care of IT Services.
