Following the postponement of work scheduled for Saturday 12th November, it is necessary to undertake some essential upgrading works on the electrical substation at the Paddock which is located just north of House 33 on Saturday 17th December, with further work on Sunday 18th December if necessary. This work involves the installation of a new electrical power supply that will service an IS Services Green Data centre within Áras An Phiarsaigh, which is currently under development. This new electrical supply will be installed in the Paddock substation which supplies electrical power to the following group of buildings:

  • Áras An Phiarsaigh

  • 199 Pearse Street
  • Houses 47 to 52 (Residences)
  • Student Health Centre
  • Day Nursery

  • Printing House
  • Buildings on east side of Printing House Lane
  • House 33 to 37 (Residences)
  • House 38 & 40 (Residences)
  • House 39 (School of Law)

It is proposed to carry out the work on Saturday 17th December 2011. While the work is taking place all buildings listed above will be provided with electrical power by means of a standby generator. In order to install the standby generator all areas listed will have two power outages on the day as follows;

  • 1.30pm to 2.00pm approximately to allow removal of the standby generator

Staff will be requested to ensure all personal computers and equipment are turned off before each power outage.

At all other times during the day of Saturday 17th December normal operation of the buildings impacted can take place.  Between 7.30am and 1.30pm the standby generator will supply power to the all the buildings listed above.

Following removal of the standby generator between 1.30pm and 2.00pm the mains electricity will be restored to all buildings.

Areas outside those listed will have normal electrical power throughout the day.

The existing Data Centre in 200 Pearse Street will be provided with electrical power by means of an existing emergency backup system. No interruption to computer and data network services is anticipated. The purpose of this communication is to notify College network connected users of a higher than normal, yet low, risk of interruption of computer and network services between the period 7.00am to 2.00pmIf required, further work may take place on Sunday 18th December.
