IT Services Alerts - Update: Important information regarding iOS 10 and macOS Sierra (10.12)

IT Services has completed testing of macOS Sierra (10.12) for Apple laptops and desktops in regard to its compatibility with the Trinity data network and IT systems.  We are pleased to announce it is now supported for use on the wired network in Trinity offices and labs and on the Staff Wi-Fi service.  Support on the student TCDconnect service was provided from 30th September (see below)

Similarly, our testing of iOS 10 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch indicates no issues in registering mobile devices running iOS 10 for the Staff Wi-Fi service, and students have been able to connect with this version of iOS since 30th September.

We are happy to announce that devices running iOS 10 or macOS Sierra can now connect to the TCDconnect service (student Wi-Fi and wired network).

There is not yet support for these operating systems on the Staff Wi-Fi service or on the wired data network in offices and labs.  For that reason we advice staff who wish to connect to the Trinity data network not to upgrade to these operating systems as yet, until our testing and evaluation work is complete.

Apple will release iOS 10 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on Tuesday, 13th September.  IT Services need to test and evaluate this operating system for compatibility with our Wi-Fi services and other central IT services before we can provide support for it.  For that reason we request that staff and students wishing to connect their iOS devices to the Trinity Wi-Fi services or access central IT services do not upgrade to iOS 10 until we have completed the evaluation and testing process and have confirmed that there are no issues.

Apple will release macOS Sierra (10.12) for Mac desktops and laptops on 20th September.  For the same reasons as outlined above we request that staff and students using Mac desktops and laptops on the Trinity network or wishing to access central IT services do not upgrade to macOS Sierra until we have completed the evaluation and testing process and have confirmed that there are no issues.
