IT Services Alerts - Change to staff Wi-Fi security settings, July 2nd
First Posted: Tuesday, 30th June 2015, 10.15am
In order to improve the security of the staff Wi-Fi network, on Thursday, 2nd July 2015, we will be disabling an older Wi-Fi security protocol called 'WPA1' on the staff Wi-Fi service. This will have no impact on the vast majority of those using the staff Wi-Fi service as only a small number of devices are still using this older setting, with the majority using the supported 'WPA2-Enterprise' setting. Over the recent months we have been in touch with those staff that we have identified as having connected using a device configured to use WPA1 with advice on how to update their settings.
If you encounter any issues using the staff Wi-Fi service after July 2nd please check your Wi-Fi security settings as you may need to update them to use WPA2-Enterprise. In a very small number of cases your current device may not be capable of using the WPA2-Enterprise setting. If this is the case then you may need to purchase a new Wi-Fi adapter which does support WPA2-Enterprise.
If you need further assistance or advice please contact the IS Services Helpdesk.
