How to reset an expired password (staff)

There are a number of ways to reset your expired password, and these are outlined below. Before setting a new password please see our IT Security advice on setting a strong password. Please also be aware of the password rules:

  • must be at least 8 characters long
  • must have a mix of upper and lowercase characters
  • must include at least one numeric character OR a special character such as ! @ $ % * _ - + = ~
  • must not include £ € : ? | space
  • must not include part of your first name, last name or username
  • must not be the same as any of your previous 24 passwords
  • can only be changed once in any 24 hour period

Using Password Manager

Password Manager is a web-based service that Trinity staff can register for (if your password has not already expired). You can use it from anywhere with internet access. Once you have registered for Password Manager, it allows to change your network login password, set a new network login password if you have forgotten it, to set a new network login password if it has expired, or unlock your account. Using a Windows computer on the Trinity network

To reset an expired password using a Windows computer connected to the Trinity network:

  1. On the keyboard, press Ctrl+Alt+Del
  2. Type your Trinity username and your expired password
  3. You should see a notification that your password is expired, click OK
  4. Type the Old Password, then the New Password and confirm it
