Supported Browsers
A 'web browser' is a software application designed to locate and display web pages on the internet. Different web browsers and different versions of web browsers have different capabilities and for security reasons it is important that you keep your web browser up to date with any security patches. For these reasons IS Services recommend and support only specific web browsers as follows:
On PC
- Internet Explorer *
- Mozilla Firefox
* Note that some internet services may not function correctly in Internet Explorer 8. IS Services are investigating these issues and you should report any such problems to the IS Services Helpdesk.
On Apple Mac
- Safari **
- Mozilla Firefox
** Note that some internet services provided by external suppliers may not function correctly in Safari. In such instances it is recommended that Mac users install and use the Mozilla Firefox web browser.
Web Browser Proxy Settings
For users in College, access to web pages on the internet, external to the College web pages, is controlled by a 'web proxy server' which requires you to authenticate yourself by entering your username and external web access password. This is the same as your network login password. In order for you to be able to access web pages outside the College webpages you need to configure your web browser proxy settings.
