Ph.D. & M.Litt degrees
We offer a stimulating environment for students to pursue Ph.D. and M.Litt. degrees by research. ISE maintains a rich research culture, with staff regularly publishing books and in top international journals. Our staff view research students as partners who participate fully in the life of the school, sharing their work through seminars, at conferences, and in public lectures. Students also benefit from the full range of facilities and support services available at TCD.
Students are trained in research methods and equipped to conduct multidisciplinary research in their specialised area. We expect our students’ research to contribute to one of our four thematic research strands: inter-religious ethics and globalisation; religious worlds and the politics of difference; peacebuilding and reconciliation; and Northern Ireland. This work relates clearly to two of TCD’s research themes, Globalisation and Ireland: Texts and Contexts. More details about our current research students’ projects are available on this site.
Ph.D. degrees generally are completed in three years full-time and five years part-time. M.Litt degrees are completed in two years full-time and four years part-time.
