Dr Carlo Aldrovandi
Assistant Professor in International Peace Studies and Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies

Carlo Aldrovandi is Assistant Professor in International Peace Studies and Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies. He holds a Laurea Degree in Political Science from Bologna University and an M.A. in International Politics and Security Studies from Bradford University, where he also earned his Ph.D in Peace Studies. Previously Dr Aldrovandi has worked at the Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies of Bath University, where he taught modules on the role of religion in international politics and international relations theory. His current research interests lie at the interface of international relations, peace studies and religious studies/theology, with a particular focus on the influence of Messianic and Millenarian ideals in Middle East politics and peace processes. He is presently turning his doctoral dissertation into a monograph with the title ‘Apocalyptic and Messianic Movements in International Politics: Christian and Jewish Zionism’. Dr Aldrovandi teaches on a range of subjects including Religion in International Politics, Human Rights and Ethics in International Affairs.
Areas of Expertise & Research Interests
The normative debate around the role of religion in International Relations theory; the impact of Apocalyptic and Messianic faith in US, Israeli and Iranian politics; political mobilization of contemporary religious Fundamentalism; approaches and methods of faith-based diplomacy, conflict resolution and peacemaking in Palestine; religion and human rights; totalitarian movements and political religions.
