Title:An Abrahamic Theology and Ethic of Hospitality for the Purposes of Peacebuilding and Reconciliation

Supervisor: Dr. David Tombs

Jayme Reaves

Jayme is a second year Ph.D. student based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. With experience in areas related to inter-faith dialogue, peacebuilding, social action and nonviolence, Jayme’s research is focusing on the Abrahamic traditions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) and their theology and practice of hospitality. Seeing hospitality as something which all three have in common, Jayme seeks to dig deeper and explore ways in which the common value of welcome to the stranger can be used for purposes of peacemaking and reconciling communities. She is particularly interested in the provision and maintenance of protection, sanctuary and safe space as an expression of hospitality, and seeks to explore the limits of such provisions within the reality of post-conflict societies where the Other – particularly enemies and issues related to innocence and guilt – carries more baggage.
