International Peace Studies - Pre-arrival Information for Students
International Students – before you leave home:
There is a number of things to do before you leave home to ensure that your arrival runs smoothly. One of the most important of these is to ensure that you have all the necessary documentation to allow you enter the country. You must fulfil all relevant immigration requirements prior to arrival. Applications for visa should be made to your nearest Irish Embassy or Consulate office well in advance of your intended travel date. Further details on entry requirements can be obtained by writing to Visas Section, Immigration Division, Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, 72/76 St. Stephen's Green, Dublin 2,Ireland (+ 353 1 6789711), email info@justice.irlgov.ie or visit the website http://www.justice.ie. then click on ‘Site Guide’. Please ensure that you also have transit documentation, if required, if you intend to arrive in Dublin via another European city.
If you intend to travel to any of the six counties in Northern Ireland which are under UK jurisdiction, you should be aware that you will need a visa from the UK authorities. You will also need a re-entry visa for returning to the Republic of Ireland. In these circumstances, it is advisable, where possible, to apply for multiple visas which are usually valid for six months from the date of issue.

Cost of Living in Dublin
The International Office as Trinity College has created an estimate of living expenses for students living in Dublin. It can be found at http://www.tcd.ie/international/pre-arrival/cost-of-living/.
General information on the practicalities of living in Dublin can be found at www.tcd.ie or www.icosirl.ie.
Currency
The Republic of Ireland’s currency is the Euro (€) divided into one hundred cent (100c). Notes are issued to the value of €100, €50, €20, €10 and €5 and coins to the value of €2, €1, 50c, 20c, 10c, 5c, 2c, 1c.
Accommodation
Accommodation is probably the largest item of expenditure for most students. Unfortunately there is no accommodation available at ISE. Accommodation in the Dublin area can be difficult to secure and can be quite expensive. However, providing you allow sufficient time before start of term to look around at the available options, it should not be a problem finding something suitable.
The accommodation office in TCD has information on all aspects of the accommodation situation in Dublin. Please view their website at www.tcd.ie/accommodation for details of rooms available within TCD (very limited) or in the newer apartment complex at Trinity Hall. In order to enquire about availability, you must quote your student no. which is on the official offer letter which was sent by the Dean of Graduate Studies.
To assist students in locating suitable accommodation, an Accommodation Advisory Service will operate from the beginning of September to the end of Freshers' Week in October in the Arts Building on the main Trinity Campus. Here, students can obtain lists of available houses, apartments or lodgings. The service also provides an opportunity to meet other students looking for housing.
