Undergraduate Studies

Undergraduate students at Trinity College Dublin can choose from over 400 courses covering a wide range of disciplines, with the majority of departments offering a four year degree programme. There are flexible subject combinations in the Arts, Sciences and Health Sciences, allowing students to study the areas which interest them most. A wide selection of courses are also available to Visiting and Erasmus students spending a part or full academic year at Trinity College.
Trinity College Dublin has a strong reputation for its approachable lecturers who are leaders in their field. Our undergraduate courses have a strong emphasis on working in small groups and offer regular tutorials and seminars. Our focus on research leads to constant revision and updating of all courses to incorporate the very latest findings into our curriculum, particularly in the areas of science and business.

Broad curriculum courses
Trinity College aims to provide the broadest possible education and encourages its students to develop a spirit of critical inquiry by taking a course outside their main discipline. To this end it offers broad curriculum courses in the following subjects: literature, film studies, art and society, philosophy, psychology, politics, development economics, globalisation, the Irish landscape, environmental change, environmental law, business studies and history. Language modules
For those students not studying a language as part of their degree there are a number of optional language courses whose aim is to develop communication skills for study or work abroad. A personal tutor
Trinity College assigns a tutor to each undergraduate student.Tutors are academic staff members who look after the welfare and development of a student in relation to their academic progress. They can advise on such matters as choosing courses, assessments and exams and act as an advocate in dealing with the university. International Foundation Year
The International Foundation Year is a three-term programme, specially designed for international students whose school leaving examination does not meet the requirements for direct entry to an undergraduate degree programme. Each programme combines study skills, English language training and academic study to prepare you for degree-level study. You can choose from two subject routes: Business, Economics and Social Sciences and Science and Engineering. Find out more at tcd.ie/isc.
